There are a lot of things that you know, but you rarely have to think about. For example, I am on the computer every day. I use it every day, for just about everything. And when it doesn't work, everything comes to a screeching halt. One part of computing that I don't usually give much thought to is the internet. It's there. It's always been there, right? Actually, I remember being a senior in high school and first experiencing Windows and the internet. My parents got dial-up at the house and it was the coolest thing ever. I got my first cell phone shortly after I started college too. Now, it's part of everyone's lives all the time. It's crazy.
So, further to my point...which I kinda forgot...but I'll keep rambling anyway...the internet is an amazing thing. You can find just about anything on just about anything. You could have this totally weird, backwards hobby and somebody, somewhere will connect with you on the internet because they have that same hobby. It's pretty cool. And there are things out there that you may have never heard of, but now you can get all the information you want on that topic. Obviously, you can't believe everything, but just the fact that it's there...wow.
Not really feeling particularly philosophical today, just felt like getting it out.
On the downside of this is that anybody with an opinion can post it too. There's all the spam and junk out there too. I can't read message boards because every idiot can say every idiotic thing they want. And people get rude when they have that anonymity (surely spelled wrong...do I have spell check?). It's really sad. That's the part of the internet that I don't like. The rest of it is pretty darn amazing.

I volunteered to stay in and cover phones so everyone else could go to lunch with a gal that used to work here. So I guess the title fits.
I've been neglecting my blog lately. Not sure what is wrong with me. Guess it means I'm working too hard.
We've had some family functions the past couple weekends. That's always fun...especially since my family doesn't get together near as often as we should. Especially since my cousins have kids the same age as mine and it's fun to see them interact the same way we did when we were little.
There's a serious conversation going on here.

Theory of a Deadman
Though, after the way this week has gone, it could be a fitting title. I am reminded, however, of how precious life is and how you can't take anything for granted because it could be gone sooner than you think.
Our babysitter's mom is dying of liver cancer. I'm pretty sure she's not even 50 yet, and her youngest son is still in high school.
So what do I have to complain about? Yeah, that's what I thought. Even though the lack of a babysitter is wreaking havoc on our schedules and my sanity.
Seriously, though, it's really not that bad. Most things aren't when you put them in perspective.

Jimmy Eat World
I have been listening to this song all week. There is just something about it. I can't even explain. But I seriously need to stop already. I happened to start a list of songs I will never get tired of listening to and this one was at the top. Maybe I'll post the list someday.
So I can't really think of anything interesting that's been going on. Just work, I guess. R is doing good at school. No notes home yet anyway. So I guess that's good. They got to bring home books this week. He brought home a Clifford book that we already have, but that's okay. I enjoyed reading it to him. I've always tried to be good about reading to the kids. It's hard, though, when the only books they want to hear are Corduroy, Goodnight Moon, and If You Give a Pig a Pancake. We did get to add John, Paul, George and Ben in the mix a while back. It's nice the R is "interested" in history...even though he doesn't know it yet.
Um, so yeah. Boring post today. We'll have treats at break today because there's a birthday in the office. Always good. I made her a notepad. It's not much, but I knew she would appreciate it. Our boss always gives the most beautiful flowers. From Hy-Vee, of all places. They do good work. I'm thinking about having some sent to my best friend in South Dakota for her birthday next week.
Well, I'd better get back to it. Just because it's Friday doesn't mean I get to slack off. But I might anyway :-)

Love and Theft
I have survived the first day of preschool. It was tough, but I did it with no tears...although, I was pretty close for the first couple hours.
Oh, and R loved it. He was very excited. He was making up a song this morning about it being a fun day because it was the first day of school. I love it when he makes up songs. He did not hesitate to get on the bus. I can't wait to get home and see what he has to say.

I'm not listening to any music this morning because my mp3 player died. Well, just the battery. So I'm sitting in silence listening to work noises, which aren't nearly as much fun. But we'll be back up and running soon. Hopefully...
So I found a couple things I wanted to link to. The first is this post at Kind Over Matter. It's a feel good kind of thing, which is what that blog is all about. I check it out every day and I love it.
The second is this post at Sweet Sweet Life. There was something about the dollhouse that was so...simple, but great. Even I could do it! And even though I asked for a tutorial, I took a stab at it with the kids the other night. It turned out okay. They even played with it. R kept calling it the baby house. I was disappointed that we didn't have anything to put in it. Until I remembered the box of my old Barbies upstairs. It worked great! They had fun with it. For about fifteen minutes. Then Dad got home and they were distracted but that's okay.
(For some reason, R's clothes come off as soon as we get home. It was kinda muggy in the house last night, though. He's trying to take pictures with his camera, by the way)
In other news, R has his first day of PreK on Monday. We had a Meet the Teacher night on Tuesday. He liked the room. He seems to like the teacher. The hardest part will be putting him on the bus. Scary stuff! And last night Robbie was kind enough to point out that R might decide he doesn't want to get on the bus. Thanks. Then I'll have to take him. We live about as far from the school as you can get and still be in the district; but I have to witness the first departure on the first day of school! So sad and scary...for me, not him :-)

Tesla
So my baby is 2 now. And my other baby starts preschool in a couple weeks. How sad and scary and other emotions that I'm sure I will experience between now and then. It's crazy stuff what we put ourselves through as parents. But it's all worth it.
Not a whole lot else going on. Just working. It was nice to have a few days off. I even got to enjoy one of them by myself. With most of the laundry done and the house clean from the party, there weren't a whole lot of chores left to do. Which meant fun time for me! Whoo hoo. Don't see much of that anymore. I worked on a few various projects, the least fun of which was balance the checkbook.
Got a haircut today. I'm not really happy with it, but I never am. Yet I never switch hairdressers. I've been going to the same gal since I was a kid. Why switch now? I just don't like my hair. I'm lazy when it comes to doing my hair too. I'm a ponytail kind of person. But even I get tired of the ponytail. So I've got some layers and a weird flippy thing now. Luckily, my hair grows fast.
Well, back to work. Have a good day!

Jimmy Eat World
I've been in a Jimmy Eat World kind of place for the last day and a half. Their music is the best and I highly recommend you take a listen if you haven't already.
For some reason, I'm having a lot of trouble typing correctly today. So this will be a short entry. Maybe. I'm feeling kind of rambly. I have a lot to say...but getting it out would be a challenge.
There's a big birthday party this weekend. It'll be fun, but it's a lot of work...for me. My house has to be spotless for the in-laws arrival. Because their houses always are when we go there. But their lifestyles are a little different from mine. My mother-in-law only works a few days a week, so does my sister-in-law. The other sister-in-law only has one kid and works at her husband's business. I'm the only one that works 40+ hours a week, has two kids and a husband that works weird hours. By choice, mind you. I praised him Monday night for picking up the kids and being home early so I could register R for pre-k (that's a whole other entry). Then last night, he ruined it all by getting home at 9. Whatever.
Anyway...the point is, S is turning 2 on Saturday and I am not prepared at all. Got a list started. Maybe I'll hit the party store today. So many things to do...so little time. Story of my life...

Sixteen Candles is my all-time favorite movie. I have a VHS copy from I don't know when that I pop in periodically. I need to get a DVD, but it wouldn't be the same. Pretty in Pink is awesome too, but I never got into The Breakfast Club. Not sure why. And, of course, who can forget Home Alone? It's my all-time favorite Christmas movie.
To pay tribute, I'm wearing my most favorite Sixteen Candles t-shirt (found here, if you are interested). Sadly, even casual Friday isn't *that* casual, so I had to put something on over it. But Jake Ryan is still close to my heart :-)
